The Australian Government works closely with international partners to make the global environment less conducive to terrorism and to build collective expertise on countering violent extremism. Australia works with international partners, including the United Nations and other major international organisations such as the Global Counter Terrorism Forum. Australia and Indonesia co-chair the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum's CVE Working Group.

We also continue to cooperate closely with key partners, particularly in South East Asia.

In 2018 the Australian Government hosted DIGI Engage 2018, as part of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. More than 80 young leaders from ASEAN countries and Australia participated in a forum aimed at empowering young people with the skills, tools and inspiration to shape their online environments and counter extremism.

In 2015 Australia chaired a Regional Summit on Countering Violent Extremism. This has led to the establishment of a regional network of civil society organisations dedicated to countering violent extremism, as well as ongoing efforts to enhance the role of communities in challenging terrorist propaganda.
